Multiroom Fan Coil Units

Multiroom fan coil units (FCUs) are able to condition up to five individual spaces in residential or commercial applications with a single fan coil unit. Multiroom FCUs use variable air volume (VAV) strategies and an intelligent control system to offer quiet and energy efficient heating and cooling whilst helping to significantly reduce operational and embodied carbon.

How does Multiroom fan coil unit work?

The Multiroom is an awardwinning range which takes fan coil intelligence to the next level, offering individual control of up to five separate spaces from a single fan coil unit. Each separate room (such as meeting rooms/ cellular offices in commercial applications and bedrooms/living rooms in residential projects) can be individually controlled via room thermostats. Multiroom FCU are ideal for commercial applications and is a popular Cat A system choice that delivers design flexibility in Cat B stages without the associated technology waste. 

The Matrix range of Multiroom FCUs features independently controlled multiple fans and a unique compartmentalised discharge plenum, delivering precise, consistent airflow without the need for VCDs (volume control dampers). 

VAV (variable air volume) strategies mean that our Matrix multiroom fan coils operate at a far lower overall speed throughout the day and night, and during shoulder season, resulting in a quieter, more energy efficient operation and efficient comfort control for spaces of all sizes. 

The Multiroom FCU controller interrogates all the spaces and assigns a priority space. This priority space will invariably be the room that is furthest from its set-point with a cooling demand. With the fan coil unit in cooling mode, the priority space then gets full design air volume, with other cooling requirements getting proportionately only the air volume they need to satisfy their lesser requirements. Any space that requires heating at the same time gets no air delivered.  

Once the cooling demands have been satisfied, if there is still a need for heating, then the process temporarily reverses. With these initial loads dealt with, the Multiroom fan coil unit settles into a subtle blending of air flows to continue to maintain the individual space temperature requirements. Multiroom FCUs are available in depths of 270mm, 235mm and 190mm. 

Factory configurable software minimises the amount of commissioning required onsite, with pre-set air volumes being maintained irrespective of upstream or downstream pressure, reducing on-site installation time and costs.
